Young yogis stretch bodies to mark first yoga day
The students and the faculty members of Bhartiya Vidya Mandir (BVM), Udham Singh Nagar, enthusiastically participated in the yoga session to celebrate the first International Day of Yoga on the school premises.
Attired in white dresses, the young yogis inhaled peace and contentment spreading a serenity in the surroundings. After a session of 35 minutes, everybody pledged to make yoga an inseparable part of their lives.

Bhartiya Vidya Mandir, Kitchlu Nagar
The students at BVM, Kitchlu Nagar, performed various asanas of yoga to mark the day. School principal Neelam Mittar threw light on the importance of yoga and encouraged the students to make it a regular practice.
BCM Arya Model School
BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar, too held a camp wherein health enthusiasts of the school geared up to celebrate the day and grabbed the secrets of healthy life.
Special sessions on asanas, breathing exercises and meditation lectures were the part of this legendary day.
Emphasising the need for yoga, school principal Paramjit Kaur said yoga is the ideal exercise to build a strong body and mind.
The audience was enthralled to see advanced yoga pyramids, yogasans and beautiful yoga presentations by the school yoga teacher, Sandeep, and the 'Rubber Man of India' Master Jaspreet.
Lodhi Club
More than 100 members gathered on Lodhi Club premises to observe International Day of Yoga on Sunday. Club's general secretary Jagmohan Krishan Jain said, “Such events should be a regular part of the club activities so we will be starting yoga classes on regular basis soon.”
Sports secretary Sachin Goyal, vice-president Kawal Jeet Singh, joint secretary Gaurav Sachdeva, cultural secretary Vikas Dua and others were also present.
Gulzar Group of Institute
Gulzar Group of Institutes organised a yoga camp on its campus, in which as many as 519 NCC cadets participated. The cadets performed various asanas. Experts on the occasion gave meditation tips to the cadets and taught basic exercises.
National Integrated Medical Association
To mark the International Day of Yoga, National Integrated Medical Association (NIMA) and Diabetes Free World (DFW) doctors held a free screening camp for lifestyle related disorders like diabetes and hypertension at Guru Nanak Stadium, Peace Park, Model Gram and Ambedkar Park near Jalandhar bypass.
More than 300 people availed free blood sugar test. Besides, blood pessure was also checked. NIMA general secretary Dr Surinder Gupta said, “Apart from maintaining a healthy lifestyle, yoga cures many diseases.”

More than 40 members of NIMA cricket team performed yoga under the instructions of Dr Rupinder Kumar at Ambedkar Park. Yoga postures, meditation and other aerobic execises were performed.
Partap College of Education
International Day of Yoga was observed at Partap College of Education, Hambran Road. Yoga asanas and pranayama were performed in the morning. Assistant professor Ram Paul gave demonstration of various yoga asanas and pranayamas to the participants. After this, essay and poster-making competitions were conducted.
College principal Balwant Singh and vice-principal Manpreet Kaur threw light on various yoga practices, made the students aware of the importance and benefits of yoga and gave away the prizes to the students who performed well in various activities.
