Food to Supplement Your Yoga

The popularity of Yoga is getting more day by day. With the announcement of Yoga day celebration by UN, more people got to know the benefits of Yoga and have started practicing it now. Yoga is now looked on by a significant proportion worldwide as exercises that helps you to tone your body and maintain a healthy and fit body. Whatever the age can be, people can follow Yoga to have a better health. The unique point about Yoga is that it concentrates on every part of the body through various posses and not just external parts but also our internal systems. For example, there are certain posses in Yoga which will enhance the digestive system and Pranayama is a practice that gives a healthy respiratory system and so on.

The major question now from the Yoga practitioners is their diet. Like any other fitness practices in the world, Yoga also has certain dietary rules which will actually support your practice of Yoga.

What are the food can a Yoga practitioner consume?

1.     Fruits

The favorite food for a Yogi is fruit. The Yoga says that fruits are the highest source for life. Fruits are highly nutritious and the Yoga practitioners says that the fruits will provide you with sustained energy for a very long time and thus the fruits list at the top of an yogi’s diet. Any fruit can be consumed.

2.     Vegetables

Yogis consider that the vegetables like broccoli, cabbage and lettuce were having the highest life force in them. Daily consumption of fresh and raw vegetables or processed one is better for a Yogi’s diet. But make sure that the vegetables are not fried. 

3.     Fresh food
Yoga always believes in the force that hides inside the fresh food. This says that any Yoga practitioner should depend on foods like fresh fruits and vegetables and not on any frozen or canned food. Hence it is better to have food that are freshly brought and not stored.

4.     Raw food
Yoga is a practice that believes in the energy source hiding in the nature. Hence raw food is considered best for energy sustaining. Raw fruits, raw vegetables are always better to consume and they have the high level of energy in it, which may get reduced when being cooked.

5.     Alcohol
Alcohol consumption is completely not acceptable in the practice of yoga. Alcohol is considered to be having vibrations that can lower the subtle body energy levels. Also yoga considers that the alcohol is having an adverse effect on the central nervous system of the human body. Hence it is not good for a Yogi to consume alcohol.


Apart from the diet, the Yoga also says about the temperature of the food. Eating food at a moderate temperature is good for health and also you will be advised to consume food as slow as possible. Food consumed slowly will get digested completely and all its energy is utilized.
